Electronic Cigarettes
The electronic cigarette, or ecig for short, has been getting a lot of press recently. Are we at the start of a ‘Smoking Revolution!’ or in the midst of a ’Health Scare’ - or both? Predictable reactions really when you consider what the ecig offers up:-
- Beats the smoking ban
- Looks like a cigarette
- Contains nicotine
- You smoke without smoking
So what is it? Is it safe? Is it really cheaper than tobacco? Is it to keep smoking or to quit smoking?
Why does it beat the ban? Will it get banned? What are the legal and health bodies saying? Where can I get one?
At eciginfo we aim to answer all these questions. Can't find what you are looking for then contact us
What about your Health?
An electronic cigarette does not contain the 5000+ chemicals found in normal cigarette smoke. There are no known carcinogens and there is NO second hand smoke. It is small wonder then that they are universally being marketed as a healthier alternative to the tobacco cigarette.
However, large scale clinical testing is yet to be conducted and long term testing will obviously take time. Initial reports are encouraging, but much more is needed.
What is the Law?
The UK smoking ban, introduced to protect people from second hand smoke, effectively states that you cannot be in possession of a lit substance that could be smoked in a public place.
The ecig is not lit and does not produce any smoke -
So... electronic cigarettes are legal in public places
But what are government bodies saying about this and is the exemption from the ban likely to continue?
