The humble electronic cigarette has come a long way in the last few years. Nowadays it can be quite a complex habit with the dizzying array of paraphernalia, makers and technology on offer.

Most people starting out do so by buying a starter kit with an ecig that looks like a real cigarette. This is fine and from what we have seen it seems to help people with the transformation from smoker to part time smoker to full time vaper. They let you taste the world of the ecig and then you can decide if you want to take it further. Most starter kits use the 2 smaller models available known as the super-mini and the mini. Many people are happy with these and that is what they stay with.

Final word before you get to the goodies – if you don’t currently smoke then don’t bother getting an ecig. Sure, you can get zero nicotine cartridges but in the main ecigs are a nicotine delivery system – and nicotine is addictive. I am quite sure we are still not legally allowed to say that ecigs are a smoking cessation device, but that is what I and many others like me successfully used them for – and if the hat fits and all that (see our smoking cessation page). I haven’t consulted a lawyer but from watching TV I feel I should say that that is my 'personal opinion'.

NJOY Starter Kit	Very decent starter kit for the beginner. There are no atomisers or ejuice to contend with, it’s well made and comes in only 2 parts so it is very easy to use. E-Lites Starter Kit	E-Lites produce a decent ecig. They’ve gone out of their way to mimic the smoking experience but made the LED green to avoid confusion in public places. The E80 starter kit provides a fantastic introduction to electronic ‘smoking’, the vapour production is good as is the taste. NJOY DUO Electric Cigarette Kit	The NJOY is a pretty decent starter kit but I can’t help feel you are paying a premium for the brand. They have been around for a while now so the technology is sound and they keep on improving on it – they have been a trustworthy workhorse for many people for a long time. Vapour production isn’t bad but the taste is not for everybody. They do, however, have excellent cartridge and battery life. Sunrise Pro	The quality of these is pretty decent and they look good in both black and platinum. You get everything you need in the starter kit and the refill cartridges are very reasonably priced, although it’s a shame they only provide you with one battery. It also lets itself down a little bit on the vapour production front but in terms of value for money this is a serious contender. ParamountZone change their prices quite a bit and run regular offers so it is best to check on their site for the current price. You can also peruse some user reviews whilst you are there. Gamucci Micro Cartomizer Edition 'Deluxe Starter Kit'	We liked the Gamucci originally, then a new breed of ecig came along and the Gamucci didn’t seem so good. They have rallied and updated their product and now things have improved somewhat. They are still not the best vapour producers, the taste is a bit weak and there is not much of a ‘throat-hit’ but they are fine for light smokers. On the plus side they are very simple to use and sturdy and the product presentation is top notch which makes them ideal for presents.
